Thanksgiving math: adding up your Turkey Day calories
The 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends the average adult woman consume 1,600 to 2,400 calories per day, while the average adult male should intake 2,000 to 3,000 calories per day. According to the Calorie Control Council, Americans may take in as many as 4,500 calories during a Thanksgiving meal.
Unfortunately, those numbers don’t add up: You’d have to do hours and hours of a workout to burn those calories. You can cut down the calories by taking out a few of the dishes. So, unless you plan to run a marathon after your Turkey Day meal, you might want to do a little Thanksgiving math.
We’ve done the hard part for you. Check out the graphic below with some of the typical holiday dishes and the number of calories in each dish. But don’t forget to schedule time to burn off those yummy calories.
