Four reasons to exercise in the morning

It is one of the most frequently asked questions: Is it better to work out in the morning or evening?

There’s a lot debate about which time is better and when you’ll get the most out of your workout.  Of course, strict schedules and other obligations mean we don’t all have the luxury of options.

But if your lifestyle allows, we strongly suggest trying to exercise in the morning.  Check out the top four reasons why below.

1. You’ll actually work out

The number one reason why people fail to meet their fitness goals: They don’t show up.  When you leave your workout until the evening, you are at a higher risk for skipping it. There are too many factors that can cause you to detour: work, family, social commitments, traffic or just being too tired.  It becomes all too easy to find an excuse at the end of a long day.

If you exercise first thing in the morning, you have one fewer thing on your to-do list. You’ll be ready to tackle your day head-on, instead of dreading your workout all day long.  Also, you will actually feel empowered that you started your day with such ambition and discipline.

2. You’ll boost your metabolism at the right time

Research shows that mornings are the best time to boost your metabolism.  Not only is it a jump start to get you burning more fat, but a morning jolt also ensures you’ll burn more fat (and calories) all day long.  For this reason, morning also is the ideal time to do cardiovascular exercise.

Exercising in the morning also invigorates you for the day.  If you are not a morning person, try starting out with a solid workout.  Chances are, you will feel more energized!

3. You’ll be more focused

People tend to have less distractions (emails, phone calls) in the early hours. That will allow you to work out more efficiently and effectively.

Also, studies have shown exercise significantly increases mental focus—a benefit that lasts four to 10 hours after the workout ends. This increase in mental stamina can have a big impact on your productivity at work.

You’ll also be able to handle stress better and feel less worn out at the end of the day.  And due to an increase in endorphins, you are likely to be in a better mood.

4. You’ll set a healthy tone for the day

Most importantly, exercising in the morning starts your day on the right foot. By focusing on fitness first thing, you’re more likely to make better choices the rest of your day. Most people find that morning exercise has a tendency to regulate their appetite for the rest of the day. Not only do they eat less, they also choose healthier portions of healthier foods.
